During this event that I attended of the multitalented Malcolm Gets, wasn’t exactly what I had expected but it turned out to be an interesting sound of music that’s different than the modern day music. The musicians I watched play today were well rounded, they played their instruments in a way that complimented each other, which included a saxophone player, a bass player, a pianist, a drummer and a violinist. Throughout their show, they took turns being the highlight of the song they were currently playing, and as one instrument needed the others to compliment its sounds, and which the players did just that. Comparing the sound of John Coltrane to the group that played with Malcolm Gets, has a big difference in their range of sound, where as Malcolm used more modern sounds that relate to songs that we hear currently on the radio. Whereas John Coltrane plays soft music throughout most of his tempo, and his climaxes of the song increases very slowly and gradually, and tends to get lower quicker. One major difference between the two, is the bass player, where his guitar isn’t very emphasized and used to play low sounds, and in Malcolm’s it plays one major role, and helps set the stage for the climax. My opinion out of the quartet, the one that gave the best performance was the pianist, because the sound was so beautiful and lovely, it made such a difference in the sound of them all playing but in a very delicate way. The way he used his fingers to create a piece, where the highs and lows of his song, all flowed together and wasn’t choppy was amazing. My favorite song is quite difficult to describe because as they played, the music never seemed to end so I couldn’t quite figure out when one song finished and the next started but my favorite part was when the guitarist or bass player had his solo, because it was very high pitched and created sounds that could be compared to modern day music and some of my favorite rock bands. My least favorite was the saxophone because it was very repetitive with the same sound, which was very high, for most of the time, and distracted me from my favorite parts, which were the guitarist and the pianist. The saxophone has a very distinct sound and just doesn’t fit into my schema when I think of a band, so the sound of it wasn’t very soothing for my taste. The emotional experience this quartet brought me was one of a family gathering, which could be related to a good memory because it reminded of a time that my entire family threw a party at my uncle’s house, and out of nowhere my uncle begins playing drums and with my cousin playing the guitar, and everyone was impressed with the technique they had learned so quickly, and they way they were making the instruments complement the songs we had playing in the background. I would possibly recommend this concert to someone who enjoyed classical music, maybe someone such as my father, but maybe not my friends, because even though I found it somewhat entertaining, they don’t have such open minds to different styles of music. I can trace this style of music to some particular songs I listen to, maybe where the pianist is involved Adele can compare it to the music I listen to where her lovely voice is harmonized with the piano. Or maybe the light modern rock bands such as Coldplay or the Fray, and have such great bass players to help the sound their looking for. I can say that the concert did broaden or spark my interests into slightly different than my typical music.
